The general coordinator of “Miles of Smiles” campaign, Dr.Issam Mustafa expressed hope that the entry of Qatari fuel to Gaza would continue, without any obstacles to satisfy Gaza needs, especially with the deteriorating situation that started to threat many vital sectors in general, and the health sector in particular.

Dr. Mustafa, in a telephone call with Humanitarian Voice, said that starting the entry of Qatari fuel is a positive initiative from the part of the Egyptian authorities.

He also confirmed that coordination efforts communications with the Egyptian brethren are going very well, and these efforts are giving good results.

He expressed hopes that the process of providing Gaza with the Qatari fuel would continue, especially that this issue coincides with preparations for the entry of the aid convoy “ Miles of Smiles 13” to Gaza within coming few hours.

Dr. Issam added that the participating delegations in the convoy “Miles of Smiles 13” have started to arrive to Cairo, preparing for heading to Gaza by tomorrow noon time.

He explained that the convoy “Miles of Smiles” being a leadership convoy, includes former and present ministers , prime ministers, besides a number of former and present Parliamentarians from Arab and foreign countries, who are expected to meet with high political officials in the caretaker government of Gaza, and in the legislative council.

The general coordinator of the convoy added that the convoy’s participants will visit a number of governmental and service institutions e.g. hospitals, schools , and others, in addition to visiting the destroyed areas due to the repeated Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Dr. Mustafa pointed that the delegations will also participate in “Palestine Salvation Conference” to be organized in Gaza with the aim of reviewing the needs of Gaza Strip and its people, and to discuss the mechanism of joint action to support the Palestinian people in Gaza.

He also explained that these relief convoys reaching to the besieged Gaza Strip, would be transformed to become developmental convoys that support the improvement of everyday living of Gaza people, and open promising horizons for the future.

Palestine in Arab Spring :

Dr. Mustafa commented on the participation of Arab and foreign leadership figures, especially from Arab Spring revolutions, saying that such a move reflects the presence of the Palestinian cause, and the Palestinian suffering in the minds of Arab revolutions and their leaders as a central issue.

He also underlined the importance of focusing on the positive Egyptian role in dealing with the leadership figures vis-à-vis of their efforts in breaking Gaza siege, especially after the toppling the ousted Mubarak’s regime.

Dr. Mustafa emphasized the importance of continuing the breaking siege convoys to Gaza until ending the oppressive and illegal Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza.

He concluded that more new convoys of Miles of smiles will be launched by the beginning of next July, and another one coinciding with Eid-ul-Fitr (marking the end of Ramadan month) with the aim of drawing smiles on faces of Gaza children.
