Hunger crisis in Yemen - archived

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered approving Dh500 million for buying food items to be distributed among Yemeni people on urgent basis.

The gesture is in line with his brotherly feelings towards the Yemeni people and out of his keenness to alleviate the sufferings and ensuring the availability of basic needs for commodities and food stuff so the population of that country would be able to overcome the situation and complete the new construction phase for better security, stability and prosperity.

President Sheikh Khalifa has assigned the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation to buy these food items from the local markets in Yemen in order to stimulate that country's economy in particular reviving the local markets.

This includes rice, sugar, cooking oil, baby milk, canned food and other basic items of daily use.

President has also ordered to provide assistance directly to the Yemeni people by establishing distribution outlets in different regions of that country so as the recipients can get the assistance speedily.

The move comes in lines with UAE's keenness to express full solidarity and support to brotherly Yemeni people in development, economic prosperity and humanitarian sectors in order to show strong fraternal ties between the two sisterly countries and people.
