The aid convoy “Miles of Smiles 11” carrying medical supplies to Gaza on Thursday

The organizers of the aid campaign of “Miles of Smiles” are making their preparations for launching the 11th relief convoy, slated to carry quantities of medical assistance and medicine to Gaza Strip.

One of the organizers told “Humanitarian Voice” that the convoy would be kicked off on Thursday 5-04-2012 to Gaza via Rafah, the border crossing with Egypt, while the participants are expected to stay in Gaza until 12-04-2012.

He pointed that the number of peaceful activists is expected to exceed a hundred persons, from the following countries : 13 from Britain, 16 from Jordan, 27 from South Africa, Bahrain 18, 2 from Palestine, 2 from Morocco, one from Saudi Arabia, one from Algeria, and one from Lebanon, while a medical team of 23 physicians is expected to join the convoy.

The source added that the assistance material consist of 50 special vehicles for the use of those with special needs, in addition to quantities of relief material , medicines, and medical supplies needed in Gaza health sector.

Youth convoy :

He also explained that the convoy would carry the name of “ Youth for the sake of Al-Quds” as the majority of the participants are of young people , who would represent solidarity with the youth of Gaza, and the importance of the role played by this category of citizens in building and developing the community.

This will also underline the steadfastness of Gaza youth in confronting the various obstacles to get their right in education, work, and to form a family, under the oppressive Israeli siege since more than five years.

According to the organizer member of “Miles of smiles 11” , a medical team of Jordanian and European physicians would accompany the convoy to conduct a number of surgeries for some injured Palestinians due to the last Israeli criminal attacks, and to deal with some difficult health conditions of some patients.

He added that a team of Jordanian agronomists would carry out some studies for a number of agricultural projects aiming at developing this sector in Gaza to provide jobs for the unemployed youth, through coordination with the ministry of agriculture in this respect.
