The convoy of “Miles of Smiles 9” set off today heading to Gaza Strip.
By Adli Al-Baraqouni - Humanitarian Voice - 2012-02-06

The convoy of “Miles of Smiles 9” set off today heading to Gaza Strip.

The aid convoy of “Miles of Smiles 9” set off today (6-2-2012) heading to Gaza Strip via Rafah crossing after obtaining the approval of the concerned Egyptian authorities.

One of the convoy’s organizers, in a telephone call with Amman based Humanitarian voice, said that the convoy consists of 5 ambulances, electrical wheelchairs, power generators, special equipment for Gaza hospitals, in addition to quantities of missing medicines direly needed in the besieged coastal enclave, with a total cost of three (3) million dollars.

He added that the number of participants in this humanitarian convoy is 60 persons, coming from : Tunis, Bahrain, Jordan, and Britain.

He also noted that the participants are expected to stay in Gaza Strip until next Thursday ( 9-2-2012) according to their travel program, unless any changes would occur, then their stay would be extended for some few days.

He pointed ,while talking to humanitarian voice, that the convoy is carrying the title of “ We’re coming back to Al-Quds” in coincidence with the Al-Quds International March, slated to be launched next month in a number of Arab states.

He concluded by saying that this title carries many indications including the geographic unity and of Palestinian suffering which reflect the correlation between Gaza , and Al-Quds with all other parts of Palestine, noting that “Gaza is part of Palestine” and any achievement towards lifting its siege to ease its suffering, would be positively reflected on any Palestinian citizen.
