Dr.Issam expressed dismay for the situation at Rafah crossing
By Adli Al-Baraqouni - Humanitarian voice - 2011-06-25

The problem of Rafah crossing for Gaza passengers still not solved

Dr.Issam Mustafa, general coordinator of the convoy “Miles of Smiles 3” expressed his dismay for seeing passengers jamming at Rafah crossing between Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Dr. Mustafa ,in a private statement told “humanitarian voice”, that during his passage with members of “Miles of Smiles 3” while departing from Gaza that he was astonished by the big number of citizens of women, children, and elderly people desperately awaiting under blazing sun rays in vain.

He added that the implemented mechanism at the crossing does not indicate, in anyway ,that the problem was solved, after talks about opening Rafah crossing for travelers from both sides.

He also reaffirmed that such situation proves, without the least of doubt, that the siege on Gaza still not lifted, and what has been said in this concern is a mere and unfounded allegation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mustafa emphasized that the convoys of Miles of Smiles to Gaza will not stop, noting that the organizers will start preparing for the convoy “Miles of Smiles 4” ,slated to be launched during last ten day of coming month of Ramadan.

He pointed that other convoys are expected to be launched during the Eid of AlAdha ( the sacrifice) hoping to celebrate the Eid with Gaza children and draw a smile on their faces.

Dr.Issam added that the participants in “Miles of smiles3” left Gaza Strip, while expressing their determination to participate in new convoys to break Gaza siege and relief its besieged inhabitants.

Solidarity activists, who participated in “Miles of Smiles 3” left Gaza today after succeeding in delivering medical relief including quantities of missing medicines, and after staying in the strip for one week.

The participants in “Miles of Smiles 3” were welcomed by public and official figures as they arrived into Gaza, and visited its hospitals to deliver missing medicines, and quantities of baby milk direly needed in Gaza.
